Tragically, Rio de Janeiro’s port was the largest slave-trading harbor in human history. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, this area, especially the Valongo Wharf, is a powerful reminder of the nearly one million Africans who were forcibly brought to the Americas, carrying with them their culture, values, and histories.
