Descrição

This tour uncovers the history of a territory deeply connected to the struggles, resistance, and resilience of Black people in Brazil. Tragically, Rio de Janeiro’s port was the largest slave-trading harbor in human history. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, this area, especially the Valongo Wharf, is a powerful reminder of the nearly one million Africans who were forcibly brought to the Americas, carrying with them their culture, values, and histories.

Despite the atrocities of slavery and a long history of systemic exclusion, enslaved Africans and their descendants rebuilt their lives and contributed to the cultural and social fabric of Brazil, creating a legacy that deserves recognition.

‌This Little Africa Tour sheds light on these untold stories, celebrating the lives of figures often overlooked in mainstream Brazilian history, including André Rebouças, Tia Ciata, Donga, Machado de Assis, João Alaba, and Prata Preta. Guided by experts in history and culture, the tour offers a decolonial, anti-racist perspective, making it an enriching experience for visitors, students, and educators alike.
