Afro-tourism Guide to Salvador

Unique initiative of the country brings together suggestions for routes that value Afro-Brazilian culture!

With various scripts, the guide highlights references to #afrotourism in the city

For the first time, a tourist city brings together in an exclusive guide the afrotourism routes available for all tourists to explore! As part of the actions of Salvador Capital Afro, the city's Afrotourism Guide has been distributed since February in a promotional campaign to highlight the movement of valorization of black protagonism in the city.

The guide presents eight initiatives from various Afro-entrepreneurs in the city who are dedicated to presenting the black memory of the city to locals and visitors. Among the route options are walks through the Historic Center, Catholic and African matrix religious routes, visits to beaches and traditional communities of the city, always seasoned with good stories, gastronomy, and ancestry!

The guide's curation was done collaboratively, with the participation of local experts. "The protagonism of the routes will always be of those who do it, their creators, their communities, and that is why we took care to put all the contacts of their creators," highlights travel consultant Tania Neres, one of the initiative's articulators.

In addition to direct contacts with the creators, the guide allows online reservations through a QR Code that directs interested parties to the Diaspora.Black Platform. The guides are also available in Portuguese and English, to increase the access of routes to the foreign public. The proposal is that printed copies are distributed in strategic locations.

"We want the guide in all tourist information points in Salvador, as well as in agencies and hotels. It is also expected that the guide will have periodic updates of the routes, embracing different local initiatives. Undoubtedly, it is a national reference for new guides to be produced to meet the demand of customers for afrotourism, showing agencies and operators the diversity of qualified options that exist in the country," evaluates Antonio Pita, co-founder of Diaspora.Black

The project is carried out by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the city hall, with financing from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The guides are available to the public at the Salvador Festival, an event that celebrates the city's anniversary on March 29. The action is carried out by Salvador Capital Afro in collaboration with Salvador Shopping.
