The initiative is led by Aline Karina, a master in cultural heritage preservation by IPHAN, a bachelor in tourism from the University of Brasília, and CEO of the Turismo Fora do Avião platform. "We are pioneers in afrotourism in the Federal District and Surroundings, and we prove this through our 1st Guide," says the businesswoman.

The starting point for the initiative was the questions: Where are the black people who built and live in Brasília? Where are the places of memory of the local black culture? This reflection led to the creation of Sebas Turísticas, which since 2016 researches and develops community-based tourism actions in the São Sebastião region, one of the administrative regions of Brasília with great importance for the city's construction.

The first itineraries were carried out in 2017, when they visited the Vereda pottery, one of the artisanal potteries in São Sebastião important to highlight the black and peripheral protagonism in the region. The name São Sebastião comes from a black pioneer: Tião Areia, who worked in the city's construction. About 90% of the bricks used in the construction of the federal capital came from this production in São Sebastião.

The tour guide has also been developing the Afrotourism Manual, in a network and with the collaboration of special partners, such as Isabella Santos, from Sampa Negra, and Tania Neres, consultant and commercial manager of Bahia Travel.

The manual defines afrotourism as "a branch of cultural tourism that seeks to make visible, enhance, and potentiate material and immaterial cultural goods that value black culture." The manual also reinforces the importance of "materializing Afrocentric narratives, symbols, and monuments in Brazil" and highlights tourism as a "tool for social transformation, affirmation of black identity, and the construction of public policies regarding the conquest of rights and fundamental guarantees for the black community."
