Resistance and Carnival

Resistance

By Helena Theodoro

Finally, we had carnival, even out of season. The samba schools have been preparing for two years for this presentation, full of doubts about the realization of the event, but never stopping production in their courts and sheds, making poetry, singing, rehearsing, and building their world of illusions.

With a dark present, the samba musicians took shelter in their ancestry, which suffered so much, traveled across the Atlantic, managing to survive by climbing alleys and alleys, forming quilombos, as well as ways and means of maintaining their lives and stories. Therefore, nothing more natural than learning from yesterday's lesson, perfecting it today, forging a beautiful tomorrow. The samba schools have given us this example.

They sought in their stories and beliefs the strength to show their values and their faith in life. This faith was revealed in their ability to communicate and transform the world with new paths and perspectives that allow growth and good living. Using their itans, stories told by the elders, they showed energies capable of overcoming pain and difficulties. In a total communication process, they used their bodies in motion, reproducing vital energies, bringing their orixás, inquices, and vodus that represent the air, water, earth, and fire, with the result of the movement (EXU) that gives us the leaves, the trees, the animals in different spaces and forms.
