Quilombos are spaces of resistance for the enslaved black population seeking their freedom, empowerment, and free cultural and religious expression. Many quilombo descendants are now spreading ancestral knowledge, actively participating in the preservation of Brazilian tangible and intangible heritage. One of the most well-known quilombos in Brazil is the quilombo of Palmares in Alagoas, Maceió. It represents one of the greatest symbols of the fight against enslavement, and one of the main representatives of this resistance movement was Zumbi.
